Alex Reid started the Skateboarding Association of Winnipeg in early 2001, while working at City Hall. While he’s not a skateboarder, Alex had community recreational development experience while he worked at City Hall as an Executive Assistant to a City Councillor.
Alex started the Skateboarding Association of Winnipeg (SAW) to mediate between the skateboarding community of Winnipeg and the three levels of government for the cause of seeing a world-class skatepark in Winnipeg. He was successful as a million-dollar skatepark was built at the Forks in June 2006.
Alex stepped down as Executive Director in 2003 to direct more time to his business (New Winnipeg Web Hosting). But not before Alex lobbied the city to include skateparks as a recreation priority in the Winnipeg's Public Use Facility Study (PUFS).
